100% DESIGN LONDON

The Blueprint Stand with Claystation
Blueprint has joined forces with Claystation to create an interactive event for 100% Design London featuring the new One-Piece-Chair.  Visitors are invited to create their own chairs from a template included in the October issue. The template of the One-Piece-Chair is printed on some rather special paper. Unlike most ordinary lined or gridded paper being grey line on white, the company Whitelines is providing the reverse to this.  The paper creates a surface that has no glare and, more importantly can be scanned, faxed and copied without the lines interfering with the drawing.

The stand will be constructed from structural, eco-friendly cardboard, and the best design will win a full-scale version of their chair made from the same material.  Designed by Ben Hughes, the One-Piece-Chair, will be on show for the first time at 100% Design, is made from an innovative Swedish material called Reboard.  The chair is manufactured in one in one go, including printing and cutting of joints and details and delivered flat-pack ready to be folded into three dimensions. The competition will be judged by Matthew Hilton, design; Ben Hughes, director of the Industrial Design MA at Central St Martins; and Blueprint editor Vicky Richardson.
Sponsored by Whitelines and Sign Patrol

Blueprint Awards
The best products in the show will be awarded a Blueprint Badge. Winners in four categories will be announced at 6.30pm, Thursday 24 September.

100% Design will be at Earls Court, London, 24-27 September \

VITRA AND BLUEPRINT DESIGN WORKSHOP

Audile Interpretation Workshop: An exploration into Sound and environment
During the London Design Festival the spirit of the Boisbuchet workshops will be recreated at Vitra’s base in Clerkenwell. Architect ODA in association with sound artist Craig Vear and designer Andrew Lock will explore the world of the sonic experience with groups of students and professionals. How much of the world do you experience through sound? If you closed your eyes what do you ‘see’? Notice that you can ‘see’ behind you, that your environment is changing far more rapidly than your visual one. Two one-day workshops we will focus on how the experience of space through sound; what kind of shapes enhance or restrict, what kind of textures absorb or reflect? Participants will create listening devices that capture, re-interpret and re-imagine the environment, perhaps generating their own sound in response.

10am to 5pm, 24-25 September 2009. To book a place call 020 7608 6200 or write to andrew.lock@vitra.com
