Blueprint and Claystation are pleased to announce the results of the Onepiece chair design competition. The Blueprint/Claystation stand at 100% Design (above) brought the design process to life as visitors sat on specially designed Onepiece chairs and created their entries. The stand, supported by innovative suppliers of writing paper Whitelines, was a hive of activity at the centre of the show with visitors stopping to create a design and meet the blueprint team. Many heads were scratched and brows furrowed as the visitors created a graphic before assembling their model.
The Onepiece chair was developed by Ben Hughes, founder of Claystation and course director of the MA in industrial design at Central St. Martins. The chair is designed to be made from a single piece of material without the use of any adhesive or fixative, delivered flat packed and assembled by its owner. The Onepiece chair is fabricated using an innovative Swedish material called Re-board, which is as light as cardboard but as strong as MDF.
The chairs at the 100% design stand were designed especially for the event. The creative response included digital psychedelia, 1940’s pin-up glamour and geometric design highlighting the versatility and possibilities the chair offers for designers. Our thanks go to the collaborators; Funky Little Darlings, Jem Fevzi, Jonathan Ball, Margo Selby, Jordy Fu, Steve Wilson, Martin Wollerstam and Sean Mackaoui.
